Malik Abdul-Rahmaan is a producer, DJ, archivist, and educator whose work explores the cultural and historical dimensions of sound, with a focus on Afro-Diasporic music traditions.
With over two decades of experience—including a decade in Tokyo shaping the Japanese hip-hop scene—he has collaborated with artists like Ghostface Killah, Pink Siifu, Navy Blue, and Oddisee. As former staff at NYC’s iconic A-1 Record Shop, Malik draws from an expansive archive of global recordings and is known for his analog-driven, high-fidelity production style. As an educator, he created the Sound Practice course and leads Field Research, an ethnomusicological series examining place-based sound through hip-hop and archival storytelling. His practice centers on deep listening, cultural memory, and honoring the integrity of source material.
