Winter ‘23 Cohort Begins in January
An immersive 7-week cohort learning experience that will help you develop your Sound Practice: break out of musical monoculture, find your sonic signature and tell your unique story through your music. Unlike other music production courses this program is not about technical skill. As a participant, you will:
✔️ Step into a global music community
✔️ Expand your ear: learn to listen FOR vs. listen TO
✔️ Find your voice and tell your story
✔️ Tap into healthy creative habits to overcome blocks
✔️ Explore Black music lineages
✔️ Deepen your accountability to your craft
✔️ Discover meaningful opportunities for collaboration
✔️ Create an EP
Course Components + Structure
1 orientation
6 X 2.5hr long class sessions
Hosted guest discussions
Weekly dedicated self-directed lab time, hosted on Zoom
Who is Sound Practice For?
Any level creator with a music production set-up who is ready to delve deeper into the creative practice, is encouraged to register. However, for this program to be effective, you must have comfort in your home studio set up. Again, this is not an instruction based course. There will be close to no time dedicated to technical assistance.
Sound Practice is truly geared toward discovery based learning about building creative habit, finding your voice, understanding cultural context and expanding your listening.
If this speaks to you, we hope to have you!
Black Music Creator’s Fund
Rolling Deadline
The Black Music Creator’s fund was started to acknowledge the labor, creativity and brilliance of Black music makers, whose work is too often extracted from and not given its due recognition. I’m committed to building a community that is equitable and balanced in its representation of all people. Sound Practice is committed to centering Black Music Creators who, too often, go uncredited for their innovations in the greater global music landscape. For that reason, four scholarship seats will be reserved for Black Music Creators in the upcoming cohort.
Applicants will be notified two weeks prior to program start
If you’d like to contribute to a full or partial spot for a scholarship recipient
